REA System Observes Anniversary at Eight Years

The Boone Valley Electric Cooperative marks eight years of service since energizing lines in December 1936. Manager W H Helmke recalls 133 consumers in the first month. today 133 consumers across 45 miles in Wright, Humboldt and Hancock counties. The cooperative serves 181 farms, averaging 125 kilowatt hours in August, up from 103 KW last year. The annual meeting is set for Monday February 7.

Wigans and Velma Boge Married in Topeka

Pvt Gerald Wigans and Miss Velma Boge, daughter of Mr and Mrs Mike Boge, wed Tuesday December 25 in Topeka Kansas. Attendants included Miss Boge sister and Glenn Wigans brother of the groom. Pvt Wigans has been on war duty and was returned to some hospital care. he has been on leave from Indianapolis.

Creamery Worker Suffers Severe Steam Burns

Tom Gimer received serious facial burns Tuesday afternoon at the creamery when a door opened and a blast of steam struck his face. He was treated promptly and is expected to recover, though the burns are painful. The hardest impact is to his eyes which may not return to normal for weeks.

Death of Edward Eggerth Remains Noted in Renwick Obituary

Edward Eggerth died at his Renwick home on Monday December 27 1948 aged 86 years 3 months 28 days. Born September 29 1857 in Clayton County Iowa he settled near Renwick after moving from the farm with his parents. He married Louise Elizabeth Walkner about 4 years after moving, lived in Renwick for decades, and observed their wedding anniversary December 26 1944. He and his wife raised six children Dottie Starr George Ernest Emil Charles Henry with 19 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren plus one sister Mrs Maxine Notestine of Austin Minnesota. A longtime community worker he helped organize the Farmers Cooperative Elevator served 20 years on its board and aided Vernon Consolidated School planning. Funeral services were held December 29 at the home and Evangelical church with burial in Vernon cemetery. Card of thanks from the family followed. He is survived by his wife and family and several relatives.

Renwick Firemen Oyster Supper Hosted by Legion

The Jocal ram en held its annual oyster supper last Thursday at the American Legion hall with town council members and retired firemen as guests. Fire Chief Leo Mimbach reported the year’s activities before a social close, as Governor Hickenlooper’s proclamation declared 1944 a centennial year. local residents shared New Year’s meals with Dr. A H Stafford and others in nearby towns.

First Methodist Church Evening Activities Announced

Renwick Sunday school at 10 a m and worship at 11 a m with a children’s sermon “At the Age of Ten” and a 7 20 p m sermon “When a Righteous Man Prays” plus a Methodist Youth Fellowship service led by young people. Hardy hosts 10 a m morning worship and 11 a m Sunday school with a 7 30 p m youth meeting. Week of Prayer begins in Renwick with daily home prayers, and plans for future meetings include a factory hour at 7 30 during winter months.
