Mrs Phebe Benedict Dies After Long Illness

Mrs Phebe Benedict of Renwick died Sunday morning at home after injuries from a fall. Funeral Tuesday at the Methodist church with Rev E D Hart. burial in Elmwood cemetery. Born November 6 1856 in Coldwater Michigan she was 83. She lived 65 years in the Renwick area and was affectionately called Aunt Phebe. She outlived by siblings and many relatives, in community service and church membership.

Prominent Luverne Woman Fatally Struck Near Corpus Christi

Miss Consuelo Hanna, 43, Luverne resident and former justice of the peace, was fatally injured last Saturday when struck by a passenger train near Corpus Christi Texas. Daughter of the late George W Hanna she practiced law in Luverne for a decade and recently sold 4467 acres of the Hanna estate for 272500. She had been visiting family in Mexico and her body will be cremated then returned to Luverne for rites. Survived by two sisters Ms Ingalls Swisher Iowa City and Mrs T Ayrea Robertson Monterey Mexico.

Everett Anderson and Juen Rasmussen Wed at Eagles Grove

Everett Anderson son of Mr and Mrs Jess Anderson and Miss Juen Resmussen daughter of Mr and Mrs Nels Resmussen were married on Saturday December 23 at the Evangelical Lutheran parsonage in Eagles Grove with Rev T J Severi officiating. They will live on a farm near West Bend. A wedding dance followed in the Yeomen hall at Humboldt last Tuesday night.

Town Council Buys Improved Fire Truck

The town council bought an improved La Verne fire truck with booster pump and 1000 feet of hose. It replaces the old Ford unit and will boost fire department efficiency. Firemen tested it on New Year’s Day and approved the new equipment.

The Men’s Community club meeting set for January is postponed to Monday night January 15. Dr W G Muhleman will present 1500 feet of colored Canadian pictures and the Lake township quartet provides music. Dinner by Lutheran Aid society women.

Legion Men Gulp Oysters and Work at Stag Party

The local American Legion post held a stag party at their hall last Friday night. They opened with an oyster supper then renovated the Auxiliary cloak room, installing a new ceiling and making additional interior repairs. Mr and Mrs Clarence Hippen hosted their 500 club at a hard time party Thursday evening with hard time costumes and refreshments. High score prizes went to Mrs George Hoffman and Melvin Hezgen.
