Luther Leaguers held a St Valentine social at Pastor Dirkenal's home Tuesday evening titled Cupid's College. Guests enjoyed a bewitching menu and acts by William Krause Thomas Goettsch and Arnold Blosk. The event, directed by Prof Valentine, was deemed a social success with awards for heart problems and notes on league officers for the first half of the year.
The Orchestra of the Methodist church presents a series of programs across local venues. On February 19 it performs at the church, February 22 at the Belmond Glorious event, February 26 a full Humboldt Methodist concert, and March 6 participates in the Algona District Music Festival with choirs and orchestras from sixty churches.
Humboldt high school captured the county basketball title at Bade on Friday and Saturday. In round games Humboldt defeated Ottosen 17 to 21 while Bade beat Pioneer 86 to 1. Bradgate beat Gilmore City 80 to 18 and Livermore defeated Renwick 38 to HM. Humboldt then beat Bode 43 to 19 and Livermore 27 to 16 before defeating Livermore 37 in the final for the championship.
The Little Nine basketball tournament will be held at Humboldt Friday and Saturday with four Friday games, no Saturday afternoon games, and the finals Saturday night. Teams include Humboldt Bade Claina Guldfield Livermore Verne Reswick and West Bend. Referee is Jack North of Des Moines. Local residents Will Anderson Floyd, W Glmer, A D Gitner, and others are noted in social items.
