Kindergarten and First Grade News Bulletin Board and Learning Highlights

Kindergarten students display The Wonderful Dream on a new bulletin board with 22 dental train cards and nine more to complete, learn numbers and follow directions, color and cut out clowns and animals to stand up. First graders read Mike’s group starts Guess Who, Scott’s group finishes Fun With Dick and Jane and moves to Our New Friends, study diphthongs in phonics, add and count to 100, write numbers to 100 and words to 20, with many students counting, writing, and learning.

Third Grade News Reveals Weekly Class Focus and Projects

Third graders explored science by observing plants on a discovery table and created winter scene drawings for the side bulletin board. They practiced subtraction in tens and ones, wrote outlines and reports on reading stories, and studied proper usage in language lessons.

Fourth Grade News Highlights In School Visits And Honors

Fourth grade students with perfect spelling were Jim Cameron Betty Engstrom Carol Hesse Donna McCurry Marilyn Sehmits Jimmy Schnetzer Donna Rae Sousek and Ralph Witney. Sousek hosted a visitor Dianne Stetcher while Engstrom also visited. The class raised 642 for March of Dimes and Donna McCurry leads the skill card race with Lavonne Weldhouse and Ralph Witney close behind. The pupils show strong interest in history and science.

Fifth and Sixth Grade News From February Classroom

Fifth graders began February room decorations drawing profiles of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Kathleen Helmke celebrated her birthday on January 21. In history they study the Civil War. Sixth graders had 255 perfect spelling papers last Friday. They study lie and lay usage this week in English.

Sixth Grade Lessons and March of Dimes Total

In class the sixth graders practiced rounding numbers such as 06.1 0.01 and 0.001 and compared old China with present day China in geography. Science class studied the use of the electric magnet with a horseshoe magnet designed with iron filings. The grade recently concluded the March of Dimes drive with a total contribution of $10.37.

Eighth Grade News Reports New Six Weeks Start

Eighth graders finish semester tests and begin a new six weeks. History covers Civil War causes while English studies adverbs and adjectives. Arithmetic explores various measures and science books are completed as students start a four course in one.

Vernon hosts birthday party and visits across families

Vernon residents held a Saturday party for Larry Nelson's seventh birthday with 14 children and cake. Weekend dinner gatherings honored multiple birthdays including Larry, Richard Nelson, and Mrs Willard Gesel. Families from Webster City Humboldt Ventura Fort Dodge and Renwick visited or hosted events, with travel to Iowa City for a speech clinic and a Humboldt funeral for O S Alexander.
