John Anderson, condemned for murder aboard the Clive Pecker, was hanged in Norfolk Virginia. The first rope broke inside the knot causing a failed drop, a second attempt followed after quick medical care, and he died twenty three minutes later with neck injury noted.
Terre Haute police identify the body found in Forest Park St. Louis as Elliott Duckworth of Terre Haute. Investigators say Edward L Doling, once a cashier of a bank near Terre Haute, is actually George Dolan, a known crook. Detective Dwyer recounts past searches for Doling and notes Dolin’s unique eye and pupil marks for identification.
Three men died and eight were injured in a Saturday morning blast at the Dupont Works near Wilmington Delaware. The explosion, caused by a powder car overturning and wheels igniting loose powder, shattered windows and damaged buildings in all directions. The dead are Robert McIlhenny, John Wright, John Moore. Fatally injured were Thomas McCann, John Mulhern, Lemuel Stewart.
A Detroit man returns home Saturday to find his wife shot dead in one bedroom and his nine year old daughter dead in another. A note from the wife says she planned to go to heaven with their child, suggesting murder followed by suicide. The woman had suffered ill health for some time.
The United States military occupies Porto Rico and Cuban lines, taking control of telegraph and telephone services for government and evacuated areas. The British steamship Londonian, carrying a cargo of cattle, sank after a November gale with 25 dead and 45 rescued by the Vedamore of Liverpool near Baltimore. Survivors clung to debris and improvised lifeboats while the rescue faced ferocious seas and shifting cargo. The Londonian, a 5592 ton steel vessel, disappeared after efforts to reach her failed.
Joan Chase, 28, clerk in a cooperative grocery, will be inaugurated January 2 as mayor of Haverill, the first socialist elected to an administrative office in the county. He led a ticket with three socialists for eldermen and three for councilmen by 850 votes in a nine candidate field. Chase pledged an education focused, careful, honest administration with no expected party opposition and a harmonious city hall.
William McMillan, defeated Republican nominee for Nevada governor, plans to contest Reinhold Sadler’s election. He claims the apparent Sadler majority rests on illegal votes that could alter the result, with sensational allegations anticipated.
Consul General Holoway in St Peters burg reports Moscow has directed an American firm to supply twelve hit locomotives and 209 freight cars with air brakes at a cost of 5 000. The national House passed the all ticket scalping bill by a vote of 89 to 10 after a four hour debate. It requires carriers under the interstate commerce act to issue certificates to each selling agent, bars officers from supplying tickets to unauthorized agents, and prescribes penalties for forging or altering tickets. Unused tickets may be redeemed under the measure.
Gideon W. Marsh, president of the Keystone National Bank of Philadelphia, pleaded guilty in federal court on charges of misapplication of the bank's funds and making false reports. The bank failed in 1891. Sentence was deferred after Marsh forfeited bail in 1891 and returned to surrender on November 3.
A dispatch from El Paso says Gillett the cattle plunderer is in Chihuahua City and unlikely to surrender as No arrest. Pinkerton agents have arrived in pursuit with a warrant for obtaining money under false pretenses, but extradition prospects seem poor. A bank run follows related cattle paper notes.

Pasiner farming near Maurice sustained severe injuries when his coat got caught in a windmill gear while oiling a searing connected to a feed grinder. The gear tore flesh and left him trapped for over thirty minutes until neighbors and a schoolteacher freed him. Four doctors treated him but could not restore the arm due to blood loss. He is 50 and weak but hopes of recovery remain as he is strong.
