John Dustin Archbold, noted oil industry figure and president of Standard Oil Company of New Jersey, died after a brief illness at his home in Tarrytown New York. Federal services were held Thursday and the town’s industries paused during the wake. He left a widow and several children including John F Archbold of Thomasville Georgia and Mrs Armar C Saunderson of Lyndhurst England.

Edward D. Chayet of LeMurs, a well known business man and former state binder, was named railroad commissioner by Governor Clare to fill the vacancy caused by James H. Wilson’s death. He will begin duties early this month for a two year term starting January 1st with a $3,000 salary. Chayet previously sought the Republican nomination for secretary of state in 1912 and 1888, losing to W. S. Allen in the former race.
The 1917 Jewish state fair will run from August 22 to August 25 marking the first time in years the exposition avoids September. Following fairs in Minnesota and Nebraska, Wisconsin and South Dakota will host expos. The staggered dates let cattle and horse owners show at the midwestern fairs without conflicts.
