Gas Kills Tuberculosis Bacteria in Air Method
CHICAGO A University of Chicago professor Dr. Truman Squire Potter develops and tests a gas method to destroy tuberculosis bacteria in air. In guinea pig trials, exposure to gas-filled air protected against infection from airborne droplets, while breathing bacilli without gas caused disease. The gas results trace to aerosol work by Dr. C H Robertson's group using propylene glycol or triethylene glycol mist that becomes a gas.

Lights of New York by LL Stevenson headlined industry power
More than 7,000 miners work daily in Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Kentucky to mine bituminous coal powering New York City. The coal fuels heat for 2,500 large structures, 26,000 plants, and large public utilities, with 10 billion kilowatt hours produced in 1942. A single coal chain could light Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and parts of New Hampshire. The piece notes Con Edison’s vast coal stockpile on Staten Island and the wartime shift from oil to coal, plus a veteran miner Primus Pride.
