Instructions from an Iowa State college expert describe drying corn on the cob for Christmas dining. Steps include selecting ears, blanching 8 to 10 minutes, sun or electric fan drying, packing in sacks, heating at 140 degrees to deter worms, then soaking and cooking later as fresh roasting ears.
Farmers are advised to clean grain bins and spray with kerosene emulsion a week before storage to ward off insects. Experiments show silage as a key winter ration for fattening cattle. The B T W held a postponed meeting at Smith Park with Mrs Mantle as hostess. A short business session approved sending a barrel of canned fruit to three Orphan Homes. Plans for a future park gathering were set, committees appointed with Mrs Eastman leading, and an afternoon paper on American Birds read. Lunch was enjoyed. thanks extended to Mrs Mantle for the outing.
Manager Schneider secures the powerful photo drama for Vernon Theatre next Tuesday with showings in the afternoon and evening. Admission is 25 cents and the ad on the other page urges all couples and families to attend.
Harley Gardner of Renwick is chosen as foreman of the Northern Iowa Gas and Electric Co at this place. Gardner has managed the Renwick plant for some time and is regarded as suitable for the job. He has rented the Draheim house in the east part of town and will move about September 10.
