Morro Castle opened fire on the U S squadron Sunday night about ten shots aimed at the ships but all fell short and caused no damage. Ensign J E Edie reported to Captain Chadwick who refused to stop signaling. Chadwick remained calm and watched the Spanish fortifications.
U S gunboats capture multiple Spanish vessels including the steamer Miguel Jover of 2500 tons and Catalina bound for Barretona. Other captures include schooners Onadidia and Antopia and steamer Saturnina. Ensign Christy and crews seize ships near Havana and Ship Island, with cargoes of coal and sugar noted.
