Watch said to have been worn by signer of Declaration
Recited in the Mason City Globe-Gazette, John Ross Kannawhan cherishes a relic said to be worn by George Ross, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. The watch, with a California provenance, supposedly dates to pre revolutionary days, winds by key, and remains running though the crystal has been broken for about 40 years. The story ties Ross to George Ross and Stephen Hopkins, with Sons of the Revolution records, and recounts his family’s Civil War, Mexican War, and frontier deeds. Local notices mention a Methodist Ladies Aid doughnut sale at Richardson hardware on April 25 and a visit by Mr and Mrs BG Griebel and Kenneth to Austin, Minnesota.
