Wayne Douglas of Mineapolis, son of Mrs. Zola Douglas of Earlham, Iowa, will wed June 7 at the Park Church of Christ in Goldfield, Iowa.
A $24 685.13 payment was delivered to the Humboldt County Treasurer for the first half of 1957 operating property taxes of Northwestern Bell Telephone Co in Humboldt County. The 1957 Humboldt County total tax bill is $39 370.09.
The local poppy poster contest winners are named with prizes of 3 2 and 1 for first second and third in each class. Class 1 winners include Mary Huschka Laurel Schipuil and Sue Gregory with honorable mention to Mickey Kepper Dennis Green Chuck Huntley and Carolyn Nerem. Class 2 winners are Sheila Kepper and Donna Brophy. Class 3 had no entries. Posters now advance to the county contest.
Mr and Mrs Jack Kuehn of Oelwein welcomed a daughter Cathy Sue born April 3 weighing eight pounds. Grandparents on the maternal side are Mr and Mrs Ray Larson. The item notes the family details in a brief birth notice.
Mrs M M Green entertained the KYN Club on Thursday with devotions led by Mrs Vern Harris and a lesson taught by Mrs Ina Clowes.
The Baptist Boosters gathered Sunday evening in the church with John Guy leading devotions and Mrs Larry Liscum giving the lesson. Glen Trask and Beryl Reichter led the recreation hour. hostesses were Mrs R. J. Ross man Jr. and Mrs Glenn Emmett. Choir members were guests honoring Glen Earl Martins.
Today marks the kickoff of the local cancer crusade with education and science fighting cancer. Renwick highlights past success and Mrs Gerhard Mayer serves as local chairman with a list of workers including Mrs R A Anderson and Mrs R L Rossman Sr.
BVHS will compete in five track meets this season with May 1 marking the district meet. The squad of 15 is led by lettermen Mike Huntley and Gary Kelling, with top sprinters Dean Neuberger Vernon Kamp Paul Heggen Dave Mandsager and Bill Clowes. Distance runners include Gordon Jensen Donald Johnson Paul Hegsen Verle Tate. Field event leaders are Dean Neuberger Jerry Treile Lynn Darland and Gary Kelling. Coach Vandevier leads with Wes Carlson as assistant.
Mrs J Foley hosted the Renwick Woman's Club meeting on Thursday with a session titled Why I Belong to a Club led by Mrs Charlie Trask. Mrs W H Attig gave the lesson as members called the roll with names of out of state colleges.
Mrs Sam Nerem hosted the Fortnightly Club Thursday gathering. Mrs Sam Maurer led the legion in My Home Town and introduced Fritz Britt who presented slides of Renwick from past years to the present.
Fourteen vice presidents from Eagle Grove Clarion Humboldt Bradgate Belmond Goldfield and Renwick met at Mrs Clarence Hippen s home to lay plans for districts 46 and 99 convention in Renwick on June 21 with Bradgate and Renwick lodges hosting.
The community mourns the sudden death of Levi Deaton of Des Moines. He was 34 and survived by his wife Anna born Blesie and two children Sandy and David. Funeral services were held in Des Moines on Sunday with many relatives from here in attendance.
Boone Valley earned 15 Division I ratings and 36 Division II ratings at the State Solo Ensemble contest held April 11–12 in Ventura. I ratings went to multiple solo and ensemble entries including Clarinet Solo James McGowan and Trumpet Solo Adelle Jensen. Watts of the event highlighted by various quartets and vocal groups, with top honors awarded to Clarinet Quartet Flute Quartet Brass Quartet Piano Solo Judy Henriksen Coronet Solo Jim McGowan Tenor Sax Solo Ken Friday Treble Voice High Virginia Gimer and Treble Voice Medal Kay McGowan French Horn Solo Pat Green Baritone Solo Daryl Hansen Trombone Solo Doug Roseberry French Horn Quartet Mixed Double Quartet Saxophone Quartet and more.
Mrs Maine Vaney of Eagle Grove is a patient at St Mary's Hospital in Rochester Minnesota in room 4127. Mr Ed Selgelid and wife returned Thursday from Iowa City where he had surgery and is reported getting along fine. W P Wittmer is confined in a Fort Dodge hospital for tests and examination.
The BTW Club met Thursday evening at Mrs Moine Yanney’s home in Eagle Grove with husbands as guests. Dean Myers of Eagle Grove gave a talk and showed pictures from his recent Russia trip. Lunch was served for about 50 attendees.
Wisconsin Lumber Co runs an April sale with many bargains and a daily number game. 950 circulars were mailed, each with a unique number. customers bring their circular and compare to the posted number to win a gallon of paint.

The Literary Guild held the Silver Tea Tuesday at St Pauls Lutheran Church to benefit the public library. Mrs George Mills led the program with Barbara Oliver presenting vocal groups and Mrs Loren Schipull giving a review of American Mothers. the silver offering totaled $23.32.
The Vigorous Vernon 4 H Club held its March meeting at Nancy Helmich’s home with eight members present. The group reviewed eligibility for the 4 H camp and summer convention, exchanged baking pamphlets, and heard talks on table setting and color combinations by Ruth Larson, Joyce Hefty, Linda Engstrom, Ruby Heggen, and Judy French. A film showed proper and improper settings, followed by games and a lunch hosted by the members.
Marilyn Corrinne Prilipp 14 daughter of Mr and Mrs Elmer Prilipp died at Lutheran Hospital Fort Dodge from a ruptured brain blood vessel. She fell ill Monday at Boone Valley High School with a headache and never regained consciousness. Funeral services held at St Paul Lutheran Church with Rev Braunschweig and Rev Brauer officiating. Burial in Vernon Cemetery near Renwick. She was active in school, named freshman cheerleader, sang in vocal music and played in the band. Survivors include her parents, an older brother Donald, an older sister Beverly, and younger sister Shirley Beenens. Funeral arrangements were handled by Beenens Funeral Service of Renwick.
Robert Hefty son of Mr and Mrs Dick S Hefty of Davon Ohio is selected as one of four seminary students for special deputation work for 15 months from June 1958 to August 1959 delaying his graduation. Mrs Harold Green filled in as cook in the Vernon Building for several days while Mrs Ellen Bettelson was ill.
The Myf district rally of the Methodist Youth Fellowship gathered Sunday in Emmetsburg with attendees including Donna Swan Penny McCurry Karen Tincher Norman Tincher Virginia Gimer Mary Ann Cole Wayne Rapp Jolene Gregory Douglas Roseberry Richard Yungle s Judy Henriksen Ruby Huattey Judy Gillespie Christina Biesemeyer and Hardy participants Shirley Brayton Lillian Brophy Roger Weyer Marvin Cameron.
