Winners announced in local poppy poster contest

The local poppy poster contest winners are named with prizes of 3 2 and 1 for first second and third in each class. Class 1 winners include Mary Huschka Laurel Schipuil and Sue Gregory with honorable mention to Mickey Kepper Dennis Green Chuck Huntley and Carolyn Nerem. Class 2 winners are Sheila Kepper and Donna Brophy. Class 3 had no entries. Posters now advance to the county contest.

BVHS Track Team to Attend Five Meets This Season

BVHS will compete in five track meets this season with May 1 marking the district meet. The squad of 15 is led by lettermen Mike Huntley and Gary Kelling, with top sprinters Dean Neuberger Vernon Kamp Paul Heggen Dave Mandsager and Bill Clowes. Distance runners include Gordon Jensen Donald Johnson Paul Hegsen Verle Tate. Field event leaders are Dean Neuberger Jerry Treile Lynn Darland and Gary Kelling. Death of Levi Deaton at Des Moines at age 34

The community mourns the sudden death of Levi Deaton of Des Moines. He was 34 and survived by his wife Anna born Blesie and two children Sandy and David. Funeral services were held in Des Moines on Sunday with many relatives from here in attendance.

Boone Valley earned 15 Division I ratings and 36 Division II ratings at the State Solo Ensemble contest held April 11–12 in Ventura. Vigorous Vernon 4 H Club March Meeting Report

The Vigorous Vernon 4 H Club held its March meeting at Nancy Helmich’s home with eight members present. The group reviewed eligibility for the 4 H camp and summer convention, exchanged baking pamphlets, and heard talks on table setting and color combinations by Ruth Larson, Joyce Hefty, Linda Engstrom, Ruby Heggen, and Judy French. A film showed proper and improper settings, followed by games and a lunch hosted by the members.

Tragic Stroke Claims 14 year old Marilyn Prilipp

Marilyn Corrinne Prilipp 14 daughter of Mr and Mrs Elmer Prilipp died at Lutheran Hospital Fort Dodge from a ruptured brain blood vessel. She fell ill Monday at Boone Valley High School with a headache and never regained consciousness. Funeral services held at St Paul Lutheran Church with Rev Braunschweig and Rev Brauer officiating. Burial in Vernon Cemetery near Renwick. She was active in school, named freshman cheerleader, sang in vocal music and played in the band. Survivors include her parents, an older brother Donald, an older sister Beverly, and younger sister Shirley Beenens. Funeral arrangements were handled by Beenens Funeral Service of Renwick.

Seminary Student Robert Hefty Chosen for Deputation

Robert Hefty son of Mr and Mrs Dick S Hefty of Davon Ohio is selected as one of four seminary students for special deputation work for 15 months from June 1958 to August 1959 delaying his graduation. Mrs Harold Green filled in as cook in the Vernon Building for several days while Mrs Ellen Bettelson was ill.
