Boone Valley Community School announces the 1969 70 National Merit Scholarship Program. Students aiming for college in 1970 must take the qualifying test on Feb 15 with a 9 a.m. start. Fees are 1.25 dollars, possible extra 1.25 for testing on a new day, with need-based waivers by NMSC. Semifinalists will be named from top state scorers for Merit Scholarship consideration. Over 370 sponsors fund scholarships. about 18 750 students have won Merit Scholarships across programs to date.
David McPeak son of Mr and Mrs Milford McPeak underwent an appendectomy at Belmond Hospital at 3 am Wednesday. The operation occurred without complications and he is reported in satisfactory condition.

The biannual convention in Omaha runs Oct 16 to 22 with about 1 000 delegates from nearly 5 000 congregations. The ALC has 25 million members and faces racial tensions Viet Nam war issues rural distress and church unity. Delegates include pastors Richard Larson Roger Hoppenworth Bernard Gebser and layman Sigard Helgeland from Iowa District members.
Iowa's quail and duck seasons open October 26. Quail run January 31 with hours 8 am to 4 30 pm and a daily bag of eight birds. Duck season runs Oct 26 to Nov 24 with hours from sunrise to sunset and a varied bag limit including mallards canvasbacks redheads and mergansers with specific daily and possession caps. Coots have a separate bag of ten and possession limit twenty.

Martin Kleve was taken to Belmond Hospital on Saturday for observation. He was transferred Sunday to Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Dodge, where he underwent surgery Monday morning.
Rev. Arthur S. Olson, longtime Lutheran missionary to China, will speak at St. Paul Lutheran Church on October 20 at 7 30 p.m. He will present a color film The True Way depicting Chinese efforts to spread the Gospel. The Olson family served in Suichow and Shanghai with refugee and mission work across Hong Kong Taiwan and North Borneo before returning to the United States in 1962 now residing in Minneapolis.
Mr and Mrs Duane Pogre of Davenport welcomed a baby boy born on Wednesday October 9. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Norman Lackore of Forest City and Mr and Mrs Fred Pogge of Renwick.
Homecoming festivities in Renwick began with a program and queen crowning, followed by a parade featuring floats from multiple school classes and local organizations.
