Local church notices list services for Church of Christ Methodist and Lutheran congregations in Goldfield Renwick Belmond and East Belmond. Details include worship times confirmations Sunday school World Wide Communion Sunday and circle meetings plus hospital visit notes.
Ronald Cowles pastor leads Renwick and Corwith church activities with services, classes, and events listed. World Mission Offering on October 13 and a rally trip from Corwith to Swea City, youth welcome. Laymen Sunday on October 20 and various circles and catechism activities noted.
Town Marshall Gale Lowe filed arrests for September 1968 with Mayor M. Greens Court. Keith D. Nerem Renwick fined ten dollars for Chapter 221 78 violation, suspended. Ronald Sorlie Hardy fined ten dollars for failure to stop at school flash, expenses. David Holstan fined twenty five dollars for disturbing peace, suspended with muffler stipulation. Ronald Sorlie Hardy failed to appear, ten dollars plus costs.
Mrs David Wilson left Lutheran Hospital in Fore Dodge on Thursday after nearly a month of hospitalization following a car accident.
Saturday activities at St Paul Lutheran feature a miscellaneous shower for Mrs Marion Hoveland and Kim Berle y with overnight guests from Liston Cedar Rapids and Beddle wood. Sunday includes 7th 8th grade confirmation worship and Mary G Cormunion service. Hardy United and Lake ALCW hold meetings and programs with listed ushers and acolyte roles.
The Humboldt County Chapter of the American Cancer Society gathered at the Social Center of the First National Bank on Tuesday evening September 17 with 15 members attending. Mrs Helen Lukes of Algona attended as Area Representative and Mrs Cecil Hamilton chaired. The group reported assisting two local families and promoted use of the Loan Closet sick room supplies. New films were available for groups, and a non discrimination paper was read and signed. An article from Kiwanis International urged regular health checkups. An Area Cancer Society meeting was planned for Friday October 4 at the Algona Country Club, with David Gimer and Mr and Mrs Tom Gilmer accompanying Midshipman Paul A Gimer.
The KYN Club hosted its annual Guest Day at the Baptist church parlors on Thursday at 1 PM. Mrs. Fritz Gugisburg welcomed attendees as scripture was read by Mrs. Dale Kraft. The program committee included Mrs. M. M. Green, Mrs. Bill Hippen, Mrs. Frances Hoff man, and Mrs. Bonnie Heggen. Mrs. Green read a poem, songs were sung, a contest took place, and slides from Mrs. Carroll Gillespie recounted a summer abroad trip enjoyed by all. Hostesses were Mrs. Orville Hoffman, Mrs. Eura Hoffman, Mrs. Laura Hippen, Mrs. Dale Kraft, Mrs. Ed Stupka, and Mrs. Marvin Pearson.
The BFW Club took a trip to Fort Dodge on September 26 with 15 members. They enjoyed a 11:30 luncheon followed by a nine hour guided tour of the Fort Museum Blanden Memorial Art Gallery and the Decorator Shop before returning home.
The Fortnightly club met Thursday afternoon with Mrs Alfred Martin. The president Miss Donaldene Kraft presided. Miss Dorothy Middleton led a talk titled Our Heritage In the World of Sound. Next meeting set for Oct 10 with Mrs Verle Winter. Mr and Mrs Lloyd Pool visited Sunday with Mr and Mrs Clifford Saddoria in Dakota City.
Members of the Ren wick and Fortnightly clubs joined the 6th District Iowa Federation of Women’s Clubs meeting at the Lutheran Church in Manson. Mrs. Ralph Vinot urged patriotism and voter turnout while local members Miss Martha Heggen Mrs Paul Heggen and Miss Donnie Krall attended. Kraft spoke on the new 6th District Scholarships and Loans Program and attended the convention as a guest to discuss the program.
The Humboldt County Historical Association meets October 7 at 8 p m in the 1st National Bank Social Center Humboldt. The program by the Historical Cataloguing committee covers Addison Iowa Stage Coach Stop and Post Offices history with excerpts by George Cruikshank and Esther Flowers Cruikshank. Addison post office items and the old Addison safe are displayed, with exhibits at the Humboldt County Historical Museum open Sunday October 8 and October 20 from 1 to 6 p m.
Kanawha Bulldogs defeated Boone Valley Bobcats 19 to 6 in North Star Conference action. Larry Johnson and Gary Johnson led the Bulldogs with decisive rushing and scoring drives while Steve Lindell and teammates anchored the Bobcat defense. Rick Palmer gained 51 yards on the ground for Boone Valley amid injuries and fumbles.
The Vernon Lassies 4-H Club met Sept 21 in Renwick lunchroom with 17 members and 11 guests. They discussed Oct 4 4-H display judging and selling calendars. Officers elected: President Linda Lane Vice President Sharon Schipull Secretary Debbie Brock Treasurer Rosemary Hefty Reporter Colleen Cameron Historian Terie Leach.
Boone Valley Jr. High began the 1968 football season with a 12 to 7 victory against the Ventura Sr. Vikings. Mike Swan returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for the first score, and Mike Seimens added a second TD on a pass from Dave Rundle. The defense limited the opponent to 60 total yards. The Jr. Bobcats next faced Corbett on Wednesday October 2 at 3 45 pm.
Mrs John Zimmerman accompanied Terry Mitchell to Belmond Hospital Monday morning and stayed all day to be with Mrs Mitchell who had surgery that morning.
Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Waltz were Sunday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Schnetzer and family in Humboldt to honor Mrs. Waltz on her birthday.
The Geometry Class discusses rational and irrational numbers absolute values points lines and planes and Thursday’s start. They mention truth tables syllogisms and Venn diagrams with converses inverses and contrapositives in their recent work.
Mr. William Tincher is a patient at University Hospital in Iowa City, receiving treatment.
Mr. and Mrs. Myron Collins with Mrs. Edna Larson traveled 25 days visiting family and friends across the northwest from Bayard Nebraska to Seattle and Olympia. They visited Blair Jackets Douglas Parker and others in Casper and Caldwell Idaho and viewed Space Needle and Hurricane Ridge before returning home through Salt Lake City and Casper.
Dave Anderson finished 6th in the State One Mile Team Race at Grinnell with 4:49.0, a new school record breaking Jerry Eimers 1965 mark. He previously won at Clear Lake in 5:02.4, and this is only his second time racing the distance. The team will compete at Eagle Grove on Monday October 7 under coach Glenn Lookingbill.
Mrs. Inda Blesie and Mrs. Mary McPeak visited Mrs. Terry Mitchell and Howard Mc Curry at Bertrand Hospital on Sunday afternoon.
