Elko Men Convicted of Murder Taken to State Prison Today

Two Elko County prisoners, Chris Scott and John Dolan, were transferred from the city jail to Nevada’s state penitentiary. Scott received a life sentence for murder in the first degree after a drunken assault that killed a companion. Dolan, convicted of murder in the first degree for killing an oil man at a cemetery, faces execution by hanging on February 19, with appeals and possible commutation to life imprisonment. Dolan will be photographed, indexed, and placed in the condemned cell under death watch until the day of execution unless a pardon or Supreme Court intervention occurs.

Hammer Men Attempt Robbery In Chinatown Attack

Two men broke into Tom Lou's store in Reno's Chinatown last evening around 3 o'clock. They beat the aged Chinaman amid a jeer for money, while Chinese residents fired warning shots from revolvers but caused no capture. Tom Lao, said to be among Reno's oldest Chinese and wealthy, lies in a dangerous condition. Police recovered a steel box opener used by the assailants, now stained with blood and scalp fragments, and believe the pair may be linked to a prior drugstore burglary where about $200 was stolen on Thanksgiving night.

Hundred Drowned As Ship Strikes Reef Off Pangasinan
