A tall heavily masked highwayman entered the Collin and Gruber hours at Hazen yesterday morning, forced Coffin and others to the wall, and had a rifle handy to back the crowd. He took about fifty dollars in gold from the cash register, left jewelry and a sack of ten twenty-collar gold pieces, and escaped on a train after ordering the patrons to the corner. No clue to the thief, described as tall and heavily built, with officers arriving within ten minutes but few prospects of capture.
