Nov 7 Mayen Germany Carl Oppenheim, partner in a long standing Hesse bank, shot himself amid heavy losses. In Virginia Taft greets a German banker during a sudden death noted in the report. The incident at the hotel occurs as guests gather, with burial details to follow.
Judge Orr cannot hear jury cases until mid January due to Winnemucca court conditions. Jurors will be drawn by county commissioners at January 1909 meeting. Cases set include Candler et al. v Washoe Lake Reservoir and Garena Creek Ditch, January 18. Turner Lumber Co. v Tonopah Lumber, January 21. Other cases passed include Phenix, Fletcher, and Crump. Fudge Pike returns home tonight after court hold.

NEW YORK reports Morse a former millionaire prisoner in Atlanta Ga has served 15 years in the state prison and remained a model inmate. He refused special privileges, accepted only bread coffee and a tipper of water through his cell door and greeted his son Harry with cheer during a routine day.
In Toronto Ontario Bo Arnsiee a traveling man for an Iron firm of Reno Nevada was found in his room at the Walker House tonight with a bullet wound in his breast dust under the heart He said he had a revolver under its pillow and that he must have pulled it out and discharged it while dreaming He is feared not to recover
N A Keenan was arrested by Officer Tolley on suspicion of stealing guns and other articles from Gee Sing's store in Chinatown. Evidence is limited and Keenan will be held for further investigation. Dr E B Gregory has moved offices from the Golden Block to the Fazette Building.
Judge Orr rendered a decision in the Van Buren vs the German American Insurance Co. The case centered on insurance for a burned orchestral instrument in spring 1907. The insurer refused payment arguing the instrument was not sole property of the insured. The ruling held the insurer not liable for the orchestral instrument under the policy terms.
Mrs Estelle Mallory arrested on a complaint of attempting to leave the tab for defrauding creditors. A hearing before Judge Beil was held and her attorney sought release, but the effort was unsuccessful.

At the Nevada state penitentiary inmates held a reader election on Tuesday. William J. Bryan won the prison presidency by 39 votes to 20 for Taft. Socialist Labor candidate M. R Preston, confined in the prison, received three votes. For U S Senator Francist G Newlands earned 39 votes while opponent P F L Flanigan had 42.
Robert Dunn, a bold and successful year hunter from Northern California, is in Reno for several days before winter hunting. He says many bears are in Spoonville forests and hunting should be good this winter, and he witnessed a big brown bear slaughter recently by Sam Md ginge during a California bear hunt.
California beat Nevada in a pre Stanford prep game at Berkeley. The Cal squad, minus several injured players, faced a Nevada team that had earlier lost to Stanford twice, 14 to 0 and 86 to 0, this season.
Judge Orr issued an injunction in the case of Howard Greenmewell and Jamis Wood against Frank Goulden and partners. The ruling bars entering and operating a moving picture machine in the Center street building housing the bsis theater until August next year. The plaintiffs allege a prior agreement to occupy and run the theater. Goulden warned them to vacate. Insurance concerns reportedly avert higher premiums if the machine remains. A hearing for Use case was sought today. Judge Pike may hear it next week.
Edmund Heller confirmed he will accompany President Roosevelt on the South Africa trip. Heller is a UC Berkeley figure, known to the faculty and students, and his selection gratifies the University of California community.

Tom Kelkey faced a trial after being arrested Tuesday on a charge of attempting to vote illegally. He was convicted and sentenced to fifty days in county jail. Attorneys present said he admitted acting as a pollster all day and claimed he was paid a dollar per trip by a blond man with a smooth face.
