Taft Favored In Nevada By Tentative Returns

Nevada results show Taft leading Bryan with several counties still unreported. Strong Republican holds in Douglas and Storey counties bolster Taft as remaining precincts including Nye Esmeralda and Lander deliver uncertain votes. Balloting across Washoe Clark and other counties yields mixed gains for Newlands Bartlett and Talbot amid close statewide margins.

Mrs Louisiana Pietta Slumbers Through Prolonged Sleep

In Lowell Massachusetts Mrs Louisiana Pietta repeatedly falls into extended sleep cycles. She has not woken for five days, with prior sleeps lasting from June 3 to June 25 and other instances of one to three weeks unconscious. Doctors cannot explain the cause though she suffers no apparent ill effects and believes she slept only a single night upon waking.

Tearie Sues for Divorce Over Desertion in England

Conway Tearie filed for divorce from Gertrude M. Tearie this afternoon alleging desertion. He states they wed in Sunderland, Durhamshire, England, in 1901 and that she deserted him four years later.

Verdict in Morse and Curtis Banking Case

GUILTY verdicts returned against Charles W. Morse and Alfred Ti. Curtis on national banking law violations. Jury recommended clemency for Curtis. Juror Shirke ill earlier delayed deliberations. Morse remained calm as court resumed. Morse assaulted a photographer during a luncheon incident.

Wounded Fireman Not Expected to Live

John Middaugh, the young fireman shot last Sunday, was reported dying early this morning after his condition worsened overnight. The 22 caliber bullet reportedly passed through his lung and lodged near his heart, making the wound highly dangerous. Relatives have been summoned from Sacramento and are due this evening. No trace has been found of the boy who fired.

Taft Thanks Bryan for Courteous Telegram in Cincinnati

In Cincinnati on November 1 Taft replies to Bryan’s congratulatory telegram. The exchange accompanies Taft’s attendance at a Women’s Foreign Missionary Society conference. Taft later speaks on Christianity and uplift, receiving praise from attendees before a Commercial Club dinner honoring him at the Queen City Club.

New York Nov 5 with Missouri and Maryland wavering between Taft and Bryan as late returns were tabulated. Maryland leans Bryan, Missouri Taft though Maryland may split electoral votes. West Virginia Republican. Taft likely 319 to Bryan 164. Ohio, Indiana, and other states contested as returns continue.
