Mine disaster at Fernie leaves many trapped

Reports from Fernie British Columbia describe a twin mine blast at No 2 and No 3 shafts connected by a tunnel. About 150 men were working, 16 escaped from No 3, many others trapped with some dead. Fire damp caused the explosions and a fan was restored after being disabled. Additional dispatches note high fatalities and ongoing efforts to recover bodies as officials assess the accident's cause and impact.

Trolley Wreck Near Easton Kills Two On Memorable Hill Run

A trolley car carrying eighty nine passengers from Easton to Nazareth plunged down a steep Palmer Township incline near Easton at midnight. Brakes failed on the steep grade causing the car to runaway and derail on a sharp curve. Two men died and many were injured in the crash.

Rochambeau statue ceremonies reach Annapolis with Roosevelt

Officials and a vast party including President Roosevelt and the French delegation attend a luncheon aboard the Gaulois at Annapolis in ceremonies preceding the Rochambeau statue unveiling. Two sections of the party travel by special trains. salutes greet the leaders before the dispatch boat voyage to the Gau lois.

Destructive Iowa Flood Wrecks Towns and Railways

The northeastern Iowa flood left Decorah and nearby areas half submerged after six inches fell in two hours. A mother and child drowned, an old man perished, sixteenth rail bridges were washed away, and seven miles of Chicago Milwaukee and St. Paul track washed out. Decorah damage is estimated at 400000 dollars as residents fled to higher ground. Fort Atkinson reports eleven cars swept into the stream and stock losses across the region.
