Tornado Devastates Goliad Texas Killing Dozens

A Texas storm system left Goliad wrecked with at least ninety dead and over a hundred injured. The town’s two block by one mile area was swept by the funnel, with animals dead among the debris and rescue crews arriving by train. Other Texas towns reported property losses and injuries, while Minnesota and Iowa reports describe floods, wind damage, and railroad washouts. Governor Sayres urged Texas mayors to send aid and have railroads move relief at no cost.

Fraterville and Thistle coal mines hit by deadly blast

A Tennessee coal disaster at Fraterville and Thistle mines in Coal Creek leaves at least a hundred dead and many trapped. Rescue efforts are hampered by gas and heat as families gather, with the Coal Creek Company offering a relief fund of two hundred dollars.

Madman causes family death after rejected proposal

William Austin aged twenty five killed himself and five others including Miss Abitha McCullough and Mrs Wilkinson at the Wilkinson farm near Hastings after proposing marriage to the thirteen year old girl and being rejected. A help infant survived as the sole living witness.
