French Steamer La Fayette Captured By US Blockade
Kry West May 6 The capture of the French steam ship La Fayette by the United States blockading squadron occurred shortly before sunset last night. The vessel, heading for Havana, was warned not to enter port after a boarding by an officer from the Minneapolis. It attempted to enter again and was seized amid an exciting chase. The Wilmington, Newport and Morrill were within sight and joined in the operation. A prize crew from the Minneapolis examined papers, and under escort of the Wilmington the ship was sent to Key West. Two additional prizes, Spanish fishing schooners, were brought in today.
