Fire destroys Tremont hotel in Marshalltown Iowa

A city blaze in Marshalltown Iowa early today gutted half a block of buildings including the Tremont hotel. The fire caused 37560 in damage and left several guests and staff injured, with reports of missing persons and up to two deaths amid guests escaping in night attire.

A Modoc Indian’s Poetic Justice Ends in Double Tragedy

In Alturas California a Modoc Indian named Brown Dorris shot and killed George Harris by mistake, thinking him Big Mouthed Charlie the Indian doctor. The doctor had treated a sister of the slayer. the slain sister’s brother sought revenge and killed the doctor’s wrong man. A coroner’s inquest began with H L Boargur presiding and Derris jailed on murder charges.
