California Delegation Heads to Chicago for National Convention

California sends 18 delegates via Reno en route to the Chicago National Democratic Convention opening July 8. The party includes prominent Democrats and a 30-member California delegation, with banners declaring support for the people’s voice and Judge Field’s candidacy. Also noted are other Nevada figures and a fatal river drowning near Old River, plus eastbound travel of Lemmon and family to attend the convention and visit Missouri kin.

Alta Drift mine reports rich gravel and new tunnel progress

Wa H Otis, superintendent, says Alta Drift Gravel mine at Alta Station California shows pay gravel in the breasts and in the new 200 foot tunnel. A Saturday cleanup yielded about a pound of coarse gold with pieces worth up to five dollars. Prospection continues 300 by 500 feet from the shaft toward the northeast and east, near bedrock, with no center of the main five river channel found yet.
