Train Collision Kills Two in Kansas City

Eastbound Atelson Topeka and Santa Fe and westbound Kansas City Southern stock trains collided head on on Belt line tracks near Dailing Street, two miles from downtown. Two dead, three injured including Engineer Willis severely scalded who crawled to a shanty porch before collapsing. Passengers unhurt continued to Chicago. Blame not yet fixed.

Lynching at Watkinsville Shoots Seven Prisoners

A mob of white men took eight prisoners from the Watkinsville jail after midnight and shot seven of them to death. The victims, all Negroes, were accused of assaulting Mrs Weldon Dooley and were linked by reports to the Holbrook murders. Lon Aycock, a white man, was also seized but escaped. The jailer guided the mob and accompanied them to the scene.

Peace plenipotentiaries named for both nations

Washington reports that Russia and Japan will name two plenipotentiaries each for the peace talks. Japan has named its officials. Russia’s picks are tentatively mentioned, with possible changes due to health. Each side will also send experts and attaches to Washington.

News from St Petersburg reports government panic over mutiny in Odessa as blue jackets may join mutineers. Newsboys boycott San Francisco Bulletin over mayor clash

San Francisco June 29 The Bulletin faces a newsboys protest as hundreds boycott the paper in response to editorials accusing Mayor Schmitz and adviser Abe Reuf of graft. Mayor Schmitz sought to woo the boys by offering four papers for a nickel after the Evening Post did so for them. The boycott spreads amid barricades and threats as police and troops are deployed to safeguard Bulletin deliveries.

Prize fish comes from Truckee in unlikely catch

Dr George F Kelley while fishing in the Truckee river at night hooked a hawk and a trout at once. The hawk seized a fish on the line, pulled forty feet of line, then both fish and bird were saved. The bird was given to Dr Bryant but refused to eat and gained its freedom. In Oyster Bay, Chief Engineer Wallace resignation from the Isthmian Canal Commission was accepted.

Trains Collide Injuring Passengers and Killing Two

Train wrecks reported near Ellis Kansas City bound No 101 collides with freight. Engineer J H H Kinney and two unknown men die. No passengers injured. Roosevelt visits Bridgeport with humorous bear placard gag on Sylph voyage. In Phillipsburg a June storm kills six and wounds twenty. Property and crops suffer heavy losses.
