Taft Says He Can Win Nomination At Convention

Senator Robert A. Taft argued at a news conference that his major hurdle is the belief he cannot win in November. Newspapers Increase Prices in San Francisco

Keel Ceremony For Carrier Set

Mother Protests Tot's Marriage in Denison Texas

In Denison Texas a mother plans to seek an annulment for her 11 year old daughter Mary Kendrick who wed Airman Sergio Maldonado Tristan 21 of San Antonio. The couple married in Sherman and after a brief honeymoon went to Durant Oklahoma to tell the mother. Police held Mary and returned Tristan to Perrin air force base where he faced KP duty. The Justice of the Peace noted Mary’s age but the bride is described as tall for her age.

Plane Hits Peak in Cal Flight Disaster

Plane crash near Pasadena California killed seven air force crewmen when their twin engine C 47 plowed into a Bliss mountain peak and burned. None survived.

Senate House Group Patches Controls Bill

Washington June 28 The senate today approved a compromise extending wage price controls ten months in a tight time frame. The bill, born from senate and house versions, preserves price controls on most commodities, ends credit controls, and lifts rental curbs with a June 30 1953 end or earlier if local votes pass. Regulation X would be idled while housing starts stay under 1.2 million.

Artillery Duel on Western Korean Front Over Baldy Hill

On the western Korean front Allied and Chinese Communist artillery dueled last night after UN infantrymen repelled three attempts to seize a bald-topped hill west of Chorwon. The Eighth Army said about 225 of 800 Reds were killed or wounded. Rain followed the fighting as Chinese forces pressed bunkers but were halted by hand grenades. The actions around Baldy and nearby T-Bone hill lie along the invasion route to Seoul.
