At the Baltimore convention the Bryan forces pressed for the temporary chair as factions split. Parker urged withdrawal while Kern nominated Bryan, who took the platform and accepted. Delegates filled the hall amid decorations as bishops, governors, and party leaders converged for the key vote.
At a Carson gathering on June 27 Democrats debated a possible vacancy crisis as Lt Governor Foss acted for absent Governor Odde. Rumors swirled about a Foss takeover, but Ross ruled out any prerogative usurpation, ending the scare over an already made appointment.
Several offenders were discharged at the Police Judge Stairway session this morning. Minor offenses were let go, while some were floated out of town. Among those listed: John McLaughtin and Pal Hoye, both drunk and uncharged, with others also discharged or relocated within the city. Louis Barber of the city graduates A B from Harvard University on the 20th, after completing four years in three, and will return soon.
A man found beside a railroad track near Mullock, Nevada, yesterday after being thrown from a moving train. He says he was riding east as a strike sneaker from Carlin and was ordered off by a brakeman. He suffered a broken gill and facial injuries with possible internal damage and remained unable to walk.
An unknown man found in Belle Iste animal house Sunday night claimed a poisonous reptile bit him. He was rushed to a physician who found no poisoning. The man’s severe pain was diagnosed as a cramp, not a snakebite.
A Black woman accused of fatally injuring Mrs. R. Jordan with a sharp object was captured by a mob in Atlanta. She was placed in a car and transported toward Pinehurst, where, according to a distant report, she died after being hanged to a tree during the mob action.
The Democratic national convention began in Baltimore with Cardinal Gibbons delivering the opening prayer. Judge Alton B. Parker was named temporary chairman, sparking a clash between Bryan supporters and conservatives. Bryan urged Kern and then pressed to run against Parker, as seven candidates vie for the presidential nomination.
In Baltimore on June 25, William Jennings Bryan was defeated for temporary chairman of the Democratic National Convention by Alton Parker after Bryan nominated Senator Kern. The roll call yielded Parker 579 to 606 for Bryan, with O Gormark 4. Parker’s election later declared unanimous amid disorder and long delays as Parker began his keynote.
Amoy China reports a 4,000 strong force of Chinese counter revolutionists occupying mountains along the North river about 50 miles from Amoy and threatening Chang Chaw. Other notes from St Louis report wool prices steady with territory and western mediums at 16 1/2 to 15 1/2 cents and fine mediums at 10 1/2 cents.
Emma, a blonde resident of 2 Fist Street, was picked up by Lieutenant Johnson in Douglass Alley after a noisy drinking spree. She resisted, drew a crowd, and caused a stir on the way to the station. At jail she complained of mistreatment and vowed vengeance.
Robert Cleator of the Cleator-Dexter company is in Reno for a period of time. He recently returned from San Diego where business is thriving and plans to allow partner Marty Dexter to travel to California for a vacation. Cleator has attracted many Nevada inquiries about suburban lots in Reno.
Boston June 25 reports the rise in the price of domestic wool continuing across the East and West. Heavy trading across all grades, especially fleeces. Ohio and Pennsylvania medium fleeces at 27 cents. Montana torings 22 cents. Market described as chaotic with prices. Dealers expect higher prices as the new clip closes and manufacturers bid actively. Shortage of a year’s clip estimated up to 15 percent. Also, Gurney Gordon El C Butler and Clyde Garrett left this morning by auto for Comoe district to inspect a new mill and ore to be treated.

About 5,400 rebels hold Baichimba. General Rojas orders resistance and evacuation of women and children from camp.
Roosevelt arrives in New York aboard the Twentieth Century Limited at 3 45 this morning and proceeds to his editorial offices. He plans Oyster Bay by afternoon and indicates no statement today but a week or so may bring a conference in New York with campaign committee members. Accompanying him are Mrs Roosevelt Frank Mungey E A Van Valkenberg and Outlook staffers.
