Washington June 22 Quartermaster General Ludington received a telegram from Quartermaster Long in San Francisco stating the third military expedition for the Philippines will depart the city on Monday next aboard six transports. General Merritt likely accompanies the expedition and may become Governor General of the Philippines. Major Otis will lead the fourth expedition.
Warnixeton June 22 the forwarding of reinforcements to General Shafter at Santiago de Cuba has begun. At nine o'clock this morning the first body of troops left Camp Alger for Newport to take transports for Cuba per Major General Miles orders issued last night directing movement to begin today.
Washington reports at 4 pm the War Department received a dispatch from Pelaya del Este near Santiago de Cuba stating no news from Sampson or Shafter while confirming near Santiago connections.
