Forced Out of Mexico by Order

Approximately 100 Americans including 20 women and children arrived in Douglas at dawn from Navouar after an official de La Huerta call to arms. In Pilares miners and authorities armed locals. Mexicans were compelled to leave with Americans. By evening orders from Consul Simpich required all foreigners to depart Mexico at once.

Bank Seizes Gold Reserve to Inland City in Case of Mexican Attack

Washington June 20. Comptroller Williams says a large national bank on the Mexican border was authorized to move its gold reserve inland amid fears of a Mexican attack. He would not reveal the bank’s location, stating it is not in El Paso.

Denver reports a windstorm last night across Southern Prowers county in Southeastern Colorado injured nine people, two possibly fatally. Communications to the district were knocked out and details remain sparse.

American Murd ered in Town Across Rio Grande

Willam Browne, brother of Brownsville mayor Albert Browne, was found dead in the Rio Grande on the Mexican side ten miles south of Matamoros. He was last seen in Matamoros Saturday afternoon and is believed murdered.

Lincoln Highway Through Sparks Repaired

Sparks city council orders Lincoln highway work to start on the Sparks branch to bring tourists directly through Sparks rather than detouring to Reno by the asylum road. The road will be leveled resurfaced and placed in excellent condition. Currently most Lincoln highway traffic bypasses Sparks.

Nevada Calls for National Guard Volunteers

Volunteers are being sought after a Carson conference between Gov Boyle and Capt Applewhite to recruit a Nevada cavalry troop of 50 or more men. Forms listing names, addresses, and prior service are being distributed statewide and can be obtained through Gov Boyle Capt Applewhite or Ivan Snell. Lieut Gov Maurice J Sullivan will handle organization as adjutant general.

All Aliens Ordered Out of Mexico Fight Rages in Carranza Capital

Special Agent Rodgers in Mexico City says a train will carry Americans and other foreigners to Vera Cruz. Anti American demonstrations and mass meetings rise as sentiment hardens. An alleged war ultimatum is said to have been delivered to Commander Kavanaugh of the gunboat Annapolis. Casualties blamed on a clash between Annapolis sailors and Mexicans at Mazatlan. Mexican troops reportedly march toward Del Rio across the Rio Grande.

French Repel German Attacks Near Hill 31

Paris reports three German attacks last night on French lines northwest of hill No. 31 were repulsed by French machine guns. Germans continue heavy bombardment of positions around Vaux, Chapitre, and Chattancourt.

London June 20 Britain's cabinet faces a split over the Irish settlement as The Times reports a section opposes the government proposals led by David Lloyd George. Informal Unionist meetings occur, with resignations possible if no agreement is reached. Walter Long leads opposition insisting the cabinet not responsible for the Irish plan.

Small boy killed during play near Villa village

Rene Mery 18, son of Joe Mery, residing Fifth street and Spokane avenue, was shot and killed at 12 30 today by playmate Joe Serpentino during a bandit game on hills north of the race track. A Ward boy witnessed. Serpentino used a Ward gun. Coroner Unsworth to hold inquest tomorrow.

Mexican Suspect Lerma Shot by Posse Near Brownwood

In Brownwood Texas on June 26 Geronimo Lerma the Mexican suspect in an early morning assault on Mrs. W. A. Kuykendall was tracked by a posse about 10 miles away and shot to death. The report notes he attacked while she slept.

Germans Advancing Near Lutsk Amid Breakthroughs

Berlin reports German troops have broken Russian resistance at various points northwest of Lutsk and are pressing forward, as announced by the war office on June 20.

American flag attacked by Mexican mob at Cananea hotel

In Cananea, Mexican mob fired hundreds of bullets at the American flag above the hotel housing the U S consul W A Julian's office. Guests, nearly all Americans, faced danger as bullets struck the building while the crowd shouted insults toward the gringos. The mob pierced the flag and then aimed at the pole but failed to sever it.

US Rejects Carranza Demands Over Mexican War Crisis

The United States formally rejects Gen. Carranza’s demand for U.S. troop withdrawal and rebukes his government. The note warns that American troops will stay to pursue bandits and uphold border rights, or risk gravest consequences if de facto authorities take up arms. Secretary Lansing says the Carranza regime may be sham, citing crimes and provocations along the border.
