S P Sheer ne of Indiana a prominent political and business figure died suddenly at the independent telephone convention in the Auditorium Chicago while reading his reply to a welcome address. He was president of the Long Distance Telephone Company of Indianapolis and had been chosen to deliver a response. He collapsed after stepping back from the speaker’s table and expired within moments.
Edward Brickett, a National Express Company driver, was set upon by four strike sympathizers in front of the teamsters' headquarters. They knocked him down and brutalized him, breaking three fingers and ripping out fingernails with nippers. He cried for mercy as passersby and police later found him in the street.
