Nevada Oregon Railroad planned depot nearby, strong market, ample water, and ample cattle and horse range. Also note: Ancient Order of United Workmen activity in Carlin with 21 charter members and officer elections. A Jansaville delivery brought 12,600 pounds of flour to Reno merchants.

An article from the San Francisco Demokrat (German) describes August Simmelkord, a chemist and engineer, as inventor of a steam cow capable of producing milk and butter.
