War Dept says many given point-discharge to June release

Glider Rescue Attempt Near Manila
Near Manila on June 19 the Far Eastern Forces said a glider rescue likely will be made tomorrow to lift three survivors from a crash site in New Guinea's Shangri-La valley. Maj. William J. Samuels of Oakland will pilot the C-47 transport to snatch the glider from the valley floor. Paris June 19 Marcel Deat minister of labor in the Vichy regime was condemned to death today by a court trying him in absentia. The 51 year old former philosophy professor was a leading pro Nazi journalist and politician who helped ship French workers to Germany. He escaped to Germany during liberation and later sought asylum in Switzerland but was refused admission. He has not been heard from since.
