Pershing County Birthday Celebration Planned in Lovelock

Special to the Gazette from Lovelock on June 18 reports Pershing County to celebrate its birthday and the formal opening of the county courthouse next Monday. James T. Goodin will preside as master of ceremonies with Gov. Emmet Boyle delivering the principal address. Attendees include Reno Mayor H. E. Stewart Winnemucca Judge James A. Gallahan Carson Frank Murray Mina Senator Summerfield Crotten Unische Lovelock Lb A Firedmen and Carson Chief Justice Sanders. A barbecue will follow on the courthouse grounds and American Legion Post No. 6 plans an evening dancing party.

Heath Mass June 18 announces an Old Testament pageant to raise funds for starving children abroad. Local farmers and residents perform a four-scene drama centered on Saul, David, and Jonathan, directed by Vlora White in a Bethlehem like amphitheater setting with significant symbolic locations.

Bill To Aid Producers Of Metals Used In War

Dempsey denies knowledge of woman in Oklahoma case

Atlantic City reports Dempsey, in training for the heavyweight title bout with Carpentier, says he never heard of a certain woman connected to a divorce suit. Mrs Boulanger’s divorce case, named Tack Jeempsey, was sold to a ducal attorney in Los Angeles, with her attorney denying the allegations.

Western states plan to use Colorado River waters for reclamation and power

Wyoming commissioners and Gov Carey backed a plan to store water from the Colorado River for reclamation and power. Col J G Scrugham reported from Cheyenne that support for federal rights to use the river was sought in Congress. Rep Mondell expected to report the bill soon with hopes it will pass in the lower house. Scrugham planned to brief Southern Nevada interests on the plan.

Twenty Five Officers Beat Off Mob of 300 in Cork Clash

In Cork on Thursday night, twenty five auxiliary policemen repelled an attack by a force of about 800 at Rathcoole. Three road mines were destroyed, forcing the attackers to withdraw after heavy exchanges from trenches and walls. One officer killed, many wounded. three attackers believed dead. Crown forces sustained two deaths and four wounded.

Reno City Attorney Says Gas Rate Contention Should Be Cut

City officials indicate materials for gas production have fallen sharply and may drop further. Reno Power Light and Water seeks to thwart the Public Service Commission with a restraining order while arguing for lower rates than in the 1919 schedule.
