British reports say German air forces, trying Teutonic mass formations, struggle to break British lines as battles over German territory involve seventy to eighty planes. British pilots downed many Germans while few allies quit the fight. one British flyer halted a German air raid by immobilizing four rising enemy planes.
Joseph J. Scott, collector of internal revenue for the first district at San Francisco, has been removed from office by direction of the President. Scott is under indictment for shortage in his accounts with the government.
Springfield Missouri reports three men Pierson Adams and Dick Carter charged with first degree murder in the death of baby Lloyd Keet. Bo Claude J Plersol and Cletus Adams jailed in Kansas City on safe keeping. In Vienna an explosion at Steinfeld munition depots near Wiener Neustadt killed six and injured 300 with three depots destroyed.
In Boston on June 18 the Union Jack flew atop Bunker Hill during a military and civic parade marking the 142nd anniversary of the Minute Men and British forces. The flag led the bagpipe band of the New Brunswick Kitties battalion, 236th Canadian Overseas regiment, on its farewell appearance before returning home after a two week recruiting campaign here.
The British transport with a small number of troops aboard was torpedoed and sunk by an enemy submarine in the eastern Mediterranean on June 2. Sixty three persons including the captain are presumed drowned, the official notice said on June 18.

Washington June 14 Almost complete returns on the registration returns from the selective draft law received at the provost marshal general s office today totalled 9 661 811. Wyoming was the only state from which no returns had been received.
The Boston central labor union council voted down a resolution urging repeal of the army draft act and opposing immigration restrictions as read from the central labor council. The measure prompted prompt unanimous rejection at the June meeting in Boston.
Crowds gathered in Dublin to welcome released Irish prisoners, led by Countess Markievicz’s band of revolutionists who attacked Dublin Castle. Most prisoners arrived at eight o'clock amid singing and cheering with no disorder, while the Countess remains condemned to penal servitude after the attempt.
Washington June 18 Commissioner Judson Clements of the Interstate Commerce Commission died here today. A veteran of the rate making body since 1892 and once its chairman he was sixty. A native of Georgia he previously served five terms in Congress representing the district centered in Rome Georgia.
June 18 report says members of the Root commission attended a service in the imperial chapel and then toured the winter palace, now largely a military hospital. They spoke with wounded soldiers and nurses, inspected imperial galleries, and viewed crowds of peasants allowed inside the previously closed palace.
The Bank of California agency at Virginia City is set to close on June 30 ending a fifty year chapter. Founded in 1863 by W. C. Ralston’s bank, the Virginia City office became a financial hub and even surpassed its parent during Comstock mining boom, under cashier William Sharon who later became U S senator. The article notes the branch’s strong role in mining finance and its later influence through the Union Mill Company.
Benns Woodworth of San Francisco chief of the American First Ambulance Field Service was killed in a plane crash near Paris. Lieut Chalkett of New York City was badly injured. Woodworth had visited LaFayette Squadron headquarters in Champagne and died when the aircraft nose-dived during stunt maneuvers. He had given illustrated lectures on the war in San Francisco and once lived in Boston.

Honora May. O'Brien, twenty eight, was awarded 225000 by a state supreme court jury in Long Island City in her breach of promise suit against John B. Manning, eighty five, a retired banker. She claimed Manning broke a betrothal while she was secretary to a New York newspaper man and had become part of his family. Manning, with his children, reportedly urged the engagement then canceled it, causing humiliation published as news.
A Teuton submarine probably sunk by Japanese warships in the Mediterranean after a June 12 encounter. The report notes Japanese flotilla attacked the submarine and suggests a loss for Germany. Amsterdam teases coverage of President Wilson with critical headlines in German papers.
Berne via Paris June 18 the Neue Zuricher Nachrichten reports from Berlin that German delegates at the Stockholm Socialist conference faced disillusionment as foreign comrades doubt Germany's war innocence. Butte Montana June 18 labor trouble spread as electricians struck and called out substation men at the mines. Striking electricians supervise repairs and construction for Montana Power Company. Officials warn a shutdown of light and power could occur within three days if the strike remains unresolved. The strike is led by the Metal Workers Union against the company.
Ruth Kruger eighteen year old high school grad found dead and mutilated in a cellar leads to murder charges against Alfredo Cocchi proprietor of the bicycle repair shop. Grand jury hears evidence Italy asked to hold Cocchi as a war ally of the United States. Indictment returned charging first degree murder.
London June 18 Andrew Bonar Law, member of the war council, said in the house of commons the government intends to take steps not only to damage the enemy but to prevent raids on England. The exchange came amid questions about reprisals for German air raids.
