The Gazette ledes report from Atlanta on June 18 states Greenville suffered widespread fire damage destroying a large portion of the city and taking down the telegraph office disabling further communications as news wires were cut across the Western Pennsylvania Telegraph Office route.
A London bulletin relayed by the Gazette reports exGovernor Pingree is gravely ill in London. Doctors say his ulcerated bowels prevent any meaningful recovery and he should not have traveled. Joe Pingree, his son, provided the update noting the patient grows weaker and near collapse despite stimulants.
Washington June 18 Doctors Johnston and Rixey at the White House say Mrs McKinley is out of danger and convalescing though recurrence is possible. Blood infection has disappeared. The President plans to leave for Canton with Mrs McKinley around July 1.
Princess Hatsfelt adopted daughter of Collis P Huntington declares in a San Francisco Examiner interview that she has no plan to contest Huntington's will. She is visiting her mother in Sacramento and expressed no intent to initiate legal action against the executors of the railroad magnate's estate.
The Welsh residence of Ade lina Patti Baroness Rolf cdarstrom was auctioned in London this afternoon. It was bought for 47000 pounds, below the reserve of two pounds, with bids and a note that Madame Patti will spend part of each year in Sweden with her husband’s relatives. A 20-year-old man, Camel Richards of Green Ridge, was found dead with a bullet wound in his temple at the home of his bride in Mount Carmel on his wedding day. Police suspect murder. Richards’ body was taken to the Walters home. His fiancé Elizabeth Walters said there had been no quarrel and he appeared in good spirits before the tragedy.
Two young men drove recklessly near Tarbachers on a June day, causing a wreck that killed a two year old child of George L Leibacher and seriously injured his wife and three other children. Arthur Hutwell and Peter Durlan attempted to pass the buggy with Tarbachers on the road. Both buggy occupants were upset. The baby was thrown headfirst. Mrs Leibacher may die. Hartzell, injured, was arrested on a manslaughter charge.
The Russian ambassador notified Washington that Russia will enforce higher tariffs on American opetrurum and biivodes imported to the USSR. Finance minister De Witte issued the June 7 order under tariff law to raise duties on American products, marking a new development in Russia's discriminatory duties besides actions on sugar. The order takes effect the following Friday or within two weeks.

Buckhorn an Umatilla Indian is found mortally wounded with bullets in the right side and thigh after a confrontation with Chief Baty ton and Indian Policemen. Yakima Indian John Something helped Buckhorn and fled into the mountains. Variable reports blame Chief Bristown for provoking the arrest attempt.
A posse of farmers has surrounded woodland near Chillicothe after a burglar who struck in town last night entered three residences including James Canoll and John Moss. The sheriff is en route and a lynching is feared if the suspect is captured.
Paris June 4 Jancus B Loomis the United States Minister to Venezuela said in an interview with an Associated Press correspondent he was very pleased with his appointment as Minister to the west of Lisbon He called the move a promotion and saw no grounds for renewed Venezuelan trouble He expects friendly relations under Herbert Hoover and plans a trip to Switzerland before reporting to his new post.
Grand Jury indicts W Prince Will Prince and Bert Prince as accessories to the murder of Philip H Kennedy. Kennedy was convicted last Saturday and sentenced to ten years. Princes were arrested in February. Wall Prince in jail for bond issues. Temperatures listed for multiple cities follow.
Three Adams Express branch clerks Robert Pentcost Brown and Thomas McCarthy were arrested in New York on June 18 charged with stealing jewelry worth about one thousand dollars. The manager noted tampered seals on two packages and twelve packages missing. In Rome on June 18 the Pope ratified Dr Thomas F Kennedy of Philadelphia as rector of the American College succeeding Mgr O'Connell.
