Unanticipated Pasadena Storm Destroys Property and Panics City

A terrific storm swept Pasadena and parts of Los Angeles last Friday, with a dense black cloud moving from the ocean to the Sierra Madre. Heavy rain, lightning, thunder, and hail lashed the northwest, the hail swelling to walnut size in the Arroyo Seco area, causing flooding and widespread damage. The storm’s path crossed Lake Vineyard, Kenneloa, Vosburgs, and Serra Madre Villa, leaving a six inch ice crust in its center. No wind was recorded to propel debris, preventing greater window damage. The event stands as a remarkable and possibly once in a lifetime sight, with the 18th of June marked as an epoch.

Elephants of Burmah and a Western White Legend

The article recounts the early English account of four white elephants in the Burmese king’s palace, their lavish treatment in gold vessels and silk canopies, and the merchants’ payments. It also touches on the Coconino Forests near Prescott, Arizona, and a forgetful mother incident in a carpet store. An Italian inventor shows an electro magnet with layered iron strips. The Virginia Turn-Verein plans a outing at Steamboat Springs on June 22.
