A Baltimore basedBrown Chemical Company tonic claims to curb alcohol cravings and nervous weakness, presenting Brown's Snow Bitters as a cure for intemperance. The ad argues many bitters are whiskey in disguise and urges trying one bottle for a dollar.
In Portland the high license element controls political conventions. Alfred Brown, a recent arrival from New Mexico, is in the Stockton pesthouse with smallpox. A man sixty-nine or seventy, known as Mickey, was killed by a falling tree near Spanishtown. Alfred Anderson, the murderer in Portland, was sentenced to be hanged. A rattlesnake near Redwood City was killed while absorbing a bound. Fires hit San Andreas destroying a carpenter shop and a gunsmith shop on Court Street. Frisco in Southern Utah faced a second arson attempt burning six houses. Lompoc townspeople had pictures taken with Sheriff Broughton in the rear. Baker City railway work advances with 4000 men contracted. Union expected by December 1. The Neelles bridge may be abandoned due to high water delaying the railroad ram.

The Justice Court of Keno Township Washoe County Nevada begins a delinquent tax action against unknown and named owners to recover taxes and costs for the year commencing January 1 1882 and ending December 11 1882 with a 10 percent delinquency fee and court costs, dated Reno July 2.
The North Truckee Ditch Company in Washoe County Nevada announces an assessment of two dollars and twenty five cents per share payable under the superintendent's direction. Delinquent shares not paid by May 12 1893 will be sold after notice and advertising to cover the delinquent assessment and costs. By order of the Board Secretary W L Vanmeter April 12 1883.
