Ferryboat Northfield Sinks in New York Harbor
A wooden ferry named Northfield sank after a collision with the steel ferry Mauch Chunk in New York Harbor. Over a thousand people were aboard. many jumped into the water and divers searched cabins and engine rooms for bodies. The harbor police logged no confirmed deaths, but tug captains and witnesses spoke of numerous drownings. Captain Abrahamson and Captain Frank Griffin surrendered. authorities pursue charges of criminal neglect. Grand Stand Collapses At Chicago Normal Field Day
