Washington June 13 Commander Hans Bierd and the Roosevelt crew were praised for rescuing 701 persons from the ice bound Iranian merchant fleet in Behring Sea. The Roosevelt fought through sixteen feet of ice to reach survivors including 115 from the Tacoma which sank. Twenty one Tacoma evacuees aboard the Roosevelt, and 160 aboard the Centennial and 220 aboard the Star of Chile were also saved.
