The Mystic Shrine opening day, June 13, draws crowds as seventy-two Temples march in the pageant escorting Imperial Potentate Ernest Allen Curtis of Savannah. The procession, part of the forty-eighth Shrine convention, features four divisions and many bands, amid mist and flashing lights.
Two masked men forced their way into a Long Beach residence, pointed a pistol at the couple, and fled after failing to loot. Mrs. Terry, swooning, was revived by water and medical care as the robbers escaped with jewelry valued in the thousands. The incident disrupted the home of Lyle M. Merelsaen, a jewelry merchant now held in custody in San Francisco.
Petitions seeking the recall of Venice officials Mayor Edwin A. Gerety and City Trustee John Harrah were filed at the regular board meeting. The petitions allege incompetency and unnecessary public spending. if signatures meet requirements, the board will call a special election.

Albert B. Pickard of Moonshine Hill Texas won a $20,000 judgment in Los Angeles Superior Court against Tina Bradley Texas oil magnate alleging she stole his wife Leona Pickard’s affections. The case followed prior arrests and an extortion claim Bradley filed against Pickard, which led to charges and an acquittal.
