Governor L Chidie proposes George Wingfield to succeed James S. Nixon in the United States Senate. Wingfield, born in Arkansas and long associated with Nixon, has built a fortune in Nevada mining and finance and may become the youngest senator if he accepts the primary bid. He recently returned to Reno for James Mishaid’s funeral and has not yet decided on the office.
At Santa Rosalia Mexico June 1 rebels gain 46 tons of silver ore near Jeedas north of here as supplies falter for loyalists. Reports say rebels head toward Chihuahua Juarez to refine coin while Durango cities urge peace talks with General Huerta who offers unconditional safety guarantees to surrendering factions.
Mounted patrolmen and sheriffs deputies ordered all saloons closed near the American Smelting and Refining plant in Perth Amboy New Jersey after riot violence last night. Two policemen were injured by stones and three hotels sustained bullet damage in the clashes.
