Open Shop Starts V New Dry Law Head in S F Building

The Builders' Exchange of San Francisco will resume work Monday on the open shop plan after the Building Trades Council refused a seven and a half per cent wage cut. Two thousand union men registered to work under the open shop setup. Six Prisoners Escape From Nevada Jail

Six prisoners escaped from a Nevada jail after sawing bars and breaking a wall. Charles Jackson, a black man held for Colorado authorities, and his alleged partner Leslie Fouses were among those who fled. Two inmates stayed and alerted the authorities as a posse formed, but heavy rain wiped out the fugitives’ trail.

Atioens June 16. By Reuters. The Greek mail packet Bouboulina struck a mine and foundered in the Aegean with about 240 passengers and 25 crew aboard. Two passengers were rescued by the Greek battleship Lemnos which reached Piraeus from Smyrna with the survivors. The disaster details are not fully known. The Bouboulina, formerly Coroniila, was built in 1878 at Newcastle. It is owned by J. G. Bouboutis of Spezia. The ship measured 258 feet in length with a 32 foot beam and a registered tonnage of 1312.

Bomb attempts target active day men in New Philadelphia and Dover

In New Philadelphia at 1 30 am a dynamite bomb blew the Bowers porch to splinters but caused no injuries. A second bomb on the Haug porch in Dover failed to explode. Police arrested Nick Nigro and son Chauncey of Dover as suspects, with the son found hiding under a porch.

Body of Wife Found on a South Dakota Farm

Aberdeen, S. D., June 10. Dan Wampler, 43, a farmer, was taken into custody for questioning after the body of his wife, 37, was found buried in a corn field near the Wampler home at Heckla. Neighbors had noted her absence for weeks, and a search party located the body about ten rods from the home. The head was crushed and the body buried crudely without a casket. Wampler denied knowledge of his wife’s whereabouts. States Attorney Williamson helped locate the body and described the crude burial.
