Sharkey Maher Drawn In Seventh Round Boxing Fight

About ten thousand watched the Sharkey Maher bout at Palace Athletic Club. Referee Charley White halted the third round in Quade’s favor, the crowd booed the tame early rounds, a seventh round clash led to a foul and a draw, arrests followed, and later Maher and Sharkey were discharged by the magistrate. Two fatal wrecks and floods also reported in New England and surrounding regions.

Bell Entertainment Receipts and Net Proceeds Calculated

A public school teachers meeting at the High School tallies receipts and expenses for Bell Entertainment. Net proceeds amount to 199.46 dollars from ticket sales 272.90 dollars and expenses 73.45 dollars. Thanks extended to Charles Gotling Lumber Company for free lumber and to the Twentieth Century Club for refreshments. Arrangements planned for a bell and full accounting to the public.

La Belle Marie thrills Elko audience with strong cast

A large audience greeted Shaw's Company for La Belle Marie with strong acting by Sam T. Shaw as Byran Waupinge and Lew Rose, plus Jessie Shirley and Jean Ingleside delivering notable turns. The band earned praise in the musical program while the troupe presented a lively mix of drama and character sketches. The Elko Independent notes a Lodge banquet and the Masons’ Grand Lodge officers installed, with Most Worshipful Enoch Strother acting as installing officer.

Southern Pacific to Cut Cattle and Sheep Rates on Oregon Path

The Southern Pacific Company plans a June 14 rate cut on cattle in standard cars and sheep in ten double deck cars bound for Missouri River points via Union Pacific. Rates to the Mississippi River and Chicago are set at 177.50 and 195 respectively, applying only to ten car lots or more. The move aims to please cattle and sheep men and signals SP’s intent to do business with Nevada interests.
