At Chicago's Coliseum annex a tense preconvention atmosphere erupts into sharp exchanges between Roosevelt and Taft factions. Police detachments guard hearings while leaders debate strategy and possible bolt actions as William Flynn and others prepare for sessions.
The Royal Arch Masons hold annual session Monday at noon in the Masonic temple with Grand Master Herman Davy Kenry Miller to attend and address. The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons meets Tuesday at noon with prominent Masons expected. officers to be elected and reviewed.
Tom O Neil longtime Ely resident and former saloon keeper arrested on charge of white slavery. He ran a dance hall in the restricted district and allegedly helped a woman travel from Utah to Ely to work there. The case stems from a quarrel among district dance hall operators and a smallpox quarantine. The woman’s name is not public.
Judge LN French of Fallon arrives in Rens tomorrow and will next week hear the case of Sherrie C P Ferrer vs Washoe county over $20,000 in license collection fees. The dispute has triggered Washoe county commission investigations by a grand jury committee. Judge Moran will handle matters in Tallan due to Judge French’s disqualification. The Nevada Ophonal company window in Little Mission building remains draped in memory of Senator Nixon.
A marriage occurred this afternoon at 4 o clock in Burke's addition with Alma Tacoin and Correcca tying the knot. Rev Father Tubman officiated. The couple will reside at Cheney and Solcomb streets.
Three men were wounded in a near hour long battle for a radium claim on Negrit Island at Mono Lake. The land was located by Mrs. C M Wilson, with English capitalists and Standard Oil interest involved. 8 Nevada men led by Diamondfield Hogan seized the site amid gun cotton and a gatling gun defense.

A Johnson City dispatch reports 25 people killed in Dante Virginia a mining town in a fight sparked by a card game dispute between miners and mountaineers. Italians allegedly accused of cheating led to pistol use and many participants and bystanders died.
Mary Buel, a Wa shoe tribe warrior nicknamed for her fighting with John Barleycorn, was found dead beside the Troy laundry yesterday after apparently consuming alcohol to excess.
Four crowded autos left Reno early this afternoon carrying the Colonial baseball team and a large group of supporters. One vehicle carried ladies. The Colonials will meet the Susanville team in Leinarrow.
A Reno businessman reports a lost certificate of deposit issued May 27 1912 by A Scecline Bath No 2956 worth a large sum. The holder warns payment on it was stopped last night and urges return to keep records straight. A reward is offered.
In Chicago the Republican National Committee seated Taft backed delegates from Arkansas Florida Georgia and District of Columbia amid contested rosters. The Florida and Georgia delegations were seated for Taft by unanimous vote. Roosevelt supporters faced split or contested rosters as the panel tackled state by state cases.
Alf Chartz of Carson City sues C. E. Mack for 20000 in defamation. Motion to strike and a demurrer were filed with Judge Downer present. Representation includes Jam M Charts for Chartz and W A Massey for the defendant with Willant Woodburn Sr and George Green among others. The date for argument remains open to be set by counsel.
Special to The Gazette. In Tonopah on Thursday Bessie Garvey a young woman prepared to travel to Bishop California for her wedding to Frank Courtney accidentally shot herself in the side while packing. She was taken to the county hospital and is expected to recover.
The demurrer in Jessie Demon vs Charles Damon was argued in Judge Moran's court and overruled, with twenty days granted to answer. In F D Bare vs W R G Mining Co the demurrer was overruled and an answer ordered. W H Bare vs W H Morrison et al the W P Railway sought a continuance denied and testimony taken.
Athletes from 16 states and 102 high schools and academies prepared to compete in the eleventh annual inter scholastic championships at the University of Chicago. About 440 entrants were recorded with new junior marks expected as the event opened.
Ruggles, a former Reno teacher and McKinley Park principal, is promoted to lead Burlingame schools in San Francisco. He moved from Reno to San Luis Obispo as principal with higher pay and recently received notice of his San Francisco appointment. The promotion brings a substantial salary increase.

Virginia City June 8 Arrested Thursday night on a charge of being drunk and disorderly Dava Williams a young miner of this city was jailed and found dead on the floor of the cell yesterday. Death was due to acute alcoholism. He was 32 a native of West Jordan Utah and leaves relatives at Alameda California.
Commissioners Daemora and Ross under the pure food law pledge strict action against violators. They warned all to obey the law, announced two Lovelock complaints last month, one guilty plea for adulterated milk, a June 17 trial for another, and notices to fifteen violators statewide. Reno cases mentioned along with bread and underweight accusations. In Utica, Matt Waits defeated Bobby Wilson in a ten round lightweight bout, with Wilson showing defense but no decisive blows.
Heber Holman Jr. and Miss Venus Lewis, both of this city, married in Reno on June 6. Rev. Mr. Ely performed the ceremony. The couple will reside in Virginia City where Mr Holman engages in mining.
The body of United States Senator George S Nixon will lie in state at his home in Nevada Tuesday afternoon with a private service at 10 AM and a public service on the lawn. A cortege will proceed to the Masonic cemetery after the services. The funeral party includes senators and Nixon’s secretary Dwight Jones. Mrs Nixon returned from Cheyenne after learning of his death. Public offices will close during the funeral to honor the late senator. The life of Nixon is reviewed in a memorial pamphlet noting his rise from telegraph operator to bank owner and his public service to Nevada and the United States.
