The Indianapolis Democratic State convention convened at 10:40 a.m. with W H O Brien presiding. John V. Kern of Indianapolis was recommended as permanent chair, W J Erivan was greeted with cheers, and the platform was adopted unanimously. A motion placed Thomas Taggart for Democratic National Committee chair. Nominations followed for state offices including Alfred Schoentove for Secretary of State and William E. Stillwell for Attorney General.

Conductor and Engineer Die in Oregon Express Wreck
In Redding California on June 4, Conductor M White, 45, and Fireman R D Van Tassell, 28, were killed when the southbound Oregon Express derailed near Girvan Station. Investigators cite switch bolt withdrawal or a faulty nut as causing the front engines to run wrong way and the rear to take siding. both engines and tenders wrecked. White and Van Tassell were trapped under the engine, with severe injuries. White's left arm and the fireman's right leg were lost at the scene.

Unhappy Mother Commits Double Crime
In San Francisco a mother, Mrs Jennies Jensen, and her thirteen year old daughter Bernice Caldwell were found dead in a Cosmopolitan Hotel room. Gas asphyxiation appears to be the cause and the mother is said to have planned the deaths by turning on the gas after her child fell asleep. Mrs Jensen, twice married, left a note of unhappiness and her marriage prospects. Weather: fair tonight and Thursday.

Riot at Granite City Leaves Several Wounded
A riot at Granite City Illinois involved striking moulders and non union workers. A trainload of Steel Company workers reached the plant and were attacked with stones and revolvers. Five people were wounded including two black non union workers and three white strikers, two of whom were fatally shot. John Buffington was wounded in the kidney, B Medford in the arm, and Alexander Matthews in the leg. A warrant was sworn for a negro named Bird suspected of shooting Buffington.
