Early morning firing renewed at Santiago as reports reach New York and Paris. The Gaulois cites claims that Admiral Cervera is not at Santiago and aims for the Philippines to confront Dewey, with Camara's squadron possibly joining soon.
Navy dispatch from Comodore Schley states a May 31 reconnaissance with the Massachusetts Iowa and New Orleans to assess fortifications. Spanish squadron was observed behind the island and firing over the hill. heavy batteries engaged at long range and 7000 yards reported.
Jamaica dispatches report that a Cadiz fleet of sixteen ships including battleships and torpedo boats sails toward West Indian waters to reinforce Admiral Cervera at Santiago de Cuba.
