Fire destroys Avenue Theatre and Grand Opera House in Pittsburg

Fire swept the Avenue Theatre and the Grand Opera House in Pittsburg on June 2, with flames shooting from both buildings by 4 20 p m. The matinee at the Grand Opera House continued as ushers evacuated the audience. Police blocked streets as firemen doused the structures, but both theatres appeared doomed.

Reno to Sparks Water Mains to Be Laid Tomorrow

J H Butcher of Shaw & Butcher Sacramento is in Reno and will start laying water mains toward Sparks tomorrow. Three cars of pipe have arrived, another is due tonight, and a daily arrival schedule continues. Gas mains will follow after mains, with a large gas plant already begun and a gas range rollout expected within six weeks. J H Covode of San Francisco is in Reno en route to Beowawe strikes.
