In Chicago on July 18 the officers of the Teamsters Union halted a looming strike by 1000 lumber teamsters over demands for a 10 percent wage increase plus overtime pay and union recognition. In Chicago a husband William Nelson shot and killed his wife at their home in Englewood after she testified their love had waned during his 17 months in state prison for burglary.
