Rough Trip of a Transport Ends in Port Damaged

The US transport Ingalls from San Juan to Havana reached port after a tempestuous voyage of forty hours. Enormous seas and high winds battered the vessel damaging lights ladders bridge and interiors. Pumps failed flooding salons and storage. a bucket brigade bailed water and barrels broke free blocking the bilge. The ship formerly Clearwater used to carry fruit between Elenduras and New Orleans.

Transport Sherman Arrives From Manila

The transport Sherman arrived in San Francisco today after twenty one days at sea from Manila. On board were twenty nine cabin passengers and six hundred soldiers, of whom four hundred thirty seven were sick. Also aboard were three contract horses and the bodies of twelve dead soldiers. Six soldiers died during the voyage. Count Lamador has been appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs in Peru.
