Fire destroys Methodist minister home in Bethany Conn

Edmund Peck, 80, and daughter Mary, 35, perished in an early morning blaze that gutted their Bethany turnpike home. Edmund Peck of Waterbury, son of Edmund, was seriously injured by leaping from a second story window. The cause remains unknown as officials investigate the blaze.

Four section men, James McGrath Joseph Brow Samuel Mettler and Mike Anderson, were instantly killed when a Burlington passenger train struck their hand car crew near Monmouth Illinois.
