A Cleveland Special reports pulsing city activity as night migratory birds collide with tall electric masts and fall to ground near Union Depot. Birds, mainly warblers, were killed or stunned by bright lights and high towers. Telegraph messengers and policemen observed numerous dead birds across streets and rails.
A collage of brief quips and anecdotes from various papers. Topics include marriage exaggeration, Col Ingersoll’s questions, a mother’s remark about a wife, family squabbles, a boat incident in Missouri, drunkenness as a contagion, a bereavement exchange about a husband’s death, Julia Ward Howe’s successor in New Orleans, and sheep on the shaves.
A garbled collection of jokes and witticisms targets women and men alike. The text parodies stereotypes with quips about beauty, aging, love, and social roles, referencing proverbs and a convent scene to illustrate the era's humor.
In the Washoe County Nevada district court the guardian Jane Lake seeks an order of sale for real estate belonging to minor Myron Charles Lake. The court orders kin and interested parties to show cause on February 16 at 9:00 a.m. why such an order should not be granted and directs publication for four weeks in the Reno Evening Gazette. January 1929. Judge Boardman.
