Governors Conference Hears Merger Fight Plans

In Helena Montana on December 31 the Northwestern Governors and Attorneys General reconvened to oppose the Northern Pacific Great Northern Burlington merger. Attendees agreed on a united action and planned a three to four hour discussion, with plans to depart for their states tonight. Meanwhile Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railway Company reorganized with $100000 stock, 32000 paid in, naming H B Segar as state agent in Illinois.

Doctor Loeb on the human dynamo and life energy

Chicago December 31 Dr Jacques Loeb at the Physiology Society session extends his view that life is electri dynamic in mature beings. He says foods medicines are valuable chiefly for their content of electrical atoms and that part of food energies become electrical forces as the body sustains its dynamo. Asie Capsizes At Portland Oregon Wharf

The four masted steel bark Asie capsized this morning at Davidge Dock Portland as ballast was swept out. The vessel toppled onto the dock breaking masts and risking sinking if it slides off. Mrs Oliphant wife of the captain was rescued with difficulty. The Asi is a 1039 ton French bark.
